The “charged” Kia Rio GT-hatchback of the next generation can be equipped with the forced three-cylinder supercharged engine. The Auto Express has reported this is with the reference to the chief engineer of the South Korean automaker Albert Biermann. “We have a very nice turbocharged three-cylinder unit. I really like this motor. Sometimes it resembles a six-cylinder engine by its sound and vibration. I would like to build a crazy car with this power train,” said Biermann.
According to the engineer, the next Kia Rio will be a “very good basis for a fun little sports car”. It is expected that the usual new-generation model with svt Focus headlights will debut in 2017, but its GT version will only appear closer to 2020. It is not excluded that the three-cylinder unit can also get a “hot” version of the Hyundai i20 with which the new Rio will share one platform.
